La combinación de tonos fríos, azules y grises, y la textura rugosa crean posiblemente una atmósfera de melancolía. The painting ‘Broken Window’ symbolises fragility and decay. The cracks and fractures in the window panes not only symbolise physical damage, but are also a metaphor for broken experiences and emotions, failed decisions or ‘clouded’ perception. The combination of cold, blue-grey tones and the rough texture possibly creates an atmosphere of melancholy. Despite the weathering of the panes, the light shining in is simultaneously encouraging and invites us to reflect on our own experiences.

The rusted metal frame, as well as the frame reminiscent of leached wood, reinforces the impression of the past and the lost… and painstakingly holds together what seems to have been abandoned to decay…
