This work captures the essence of retreating from the outside world, symbolized by the heavy, flowing downward movements of colour that seem to take place behind an invisible glass wall. They convey the feeling of a barrier between the viewer and the world.

Creating distance can represent the conscious decision to let everything bounce off oneself, to create a distance to others or to the outside world in order to protect oneself. This attitude can be interpreted as a necessary protective mechanism that helps to distance oneself from the constant demands placed on oneself or the outside world.

At the same time, the work of art harbours a duality. The distancing can also be a sign of excessive demands, a manifestation of the heaviness of life or an expression of isolation and loneliness. The colours flowing down could therefore also symbolize tears, a silent testimony to the inner struggle and longing for connection in the midst of self-imposed isolation.
